Movie Review: Food Inc.

Food Inc - The Movie

I just watched the movie Food, Inc. Good one! I borrowed it from my local library. It documents how our nation’s food supply is controlled by a handful of corporations that put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment with the consent (and help?) of our government’s regulatory agencies, USDA and FDA.

The film is not overly graphic with slaughterhouse scenes, but enough to make people stop and think about where their food is coming from. It also features one of my fave food writers, Michael Pollan. Check it out here at Food Inc. Movie -  then support and buy S.O.L.E. food – Sustainable, Organic, Local and Ethical!

From the Food, Inc. website:

“We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, herbicide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won’t go bad, but we also have new strains of E. coli—the harmful bacteria that causes illness for an estimated 73,000 Americans annually. We are riddled with widespread obesity, particularly among children, and an epidemic level of diabetes among adults. .. Food, Inc. reveals surprising—and often shocking truths—about what we eat, how it’s produced, who we have become as a nation and where we are going from here.”

TIP: Check your local library to borrow movies instead of buying or renting. You can often search library catalogs online and place a request. Save money, plastic and resources!
