Food Rules by Michael Pollan

Another winner of a book from Michael Pollan! Here are some of the gems inside Food Rules: An Eater’s Manual -

  • Eat only foods that will eventually rot.
  • Eat all the junk food you want as long as you cook it yourself.
  • Don’t eat anything your great grandmother wouldn’t recognize as food.
  • Don’t eat anything with more than five ingredients, or ingredients you can’t pronounce.
  • Always leave the table a little hungry.
  • Don’t eat breakfast cereals that change the color of the milk.

I also recommend Ominvore’s Dilemma and In Defense of Food. Good reads!

I agree about the accesibility of his writing. And, about Food, Inc. That was a huge eye opener. Did you watch all the extras (that they couldn't get in the film) on it as well? All of those were equally amazing. I've heard people say they couldn't watch it ... I think that means they need to watch it more than ever. Michael was on Oprah recently, too, but unfortunately I missed that one.

I'm a huge fan of Michael Pollan's! I love how his wisdom is changing the way folks think about food. His guidance just makes perfect sense, doesn't it? I don't have this book yet, but want to add it to my collection. Even though it's info extracted from his other books, it gets right to the point and I like that. :-)

Thanks so much for sharing this, Kali!

  • Yeah, Michael just makes common sense in a way that is accessible. Very easy to read his writing. I JUST watched Food Inc. last night and he's in it. Great documentary!
