I just got a new glass straw from Glass Dharma. Love it!
I chose the 8″ smoothie size with green decorative dots. The dots are key, so it doesn’t roll off the counter and break. The diameter is a roomy 12mm – perfect for my thick smoothies and elixirs. There are several other drinking straw styles, sizes and colors to chose from.
I also got the stainless steel cleaning brush. The brush is tres important. My first glass straw got a bit cloudy after use because it’s narrower and I didn’t have a good way to clean it well. But now with the cleaning brush and a little white vinegar, she’s sparkly and as good as new! They’re also very sturdy. I think it would take dropping it a few feet or throwing it against a brick wall to break one.
I dig these straws for several reasons. First, it doesn’t leach toxins into my food as I drink. Second, it slows me down from gulping my smoothies which I’m prone to do because they’re THAT good! (Ann Wigmore says we should chew our food including drinks at least 50 TIMES because digestion begins in the mouth when we mix our food well with saliva. Easier said than done, at least for me!) Thirdly, I like to drink water with a squeeze of lemon juice but the citric acid isn’t great for teeth enamel, so the straw helps keep the acid away from my teeth. Fourth, they’re purty.
And lastly, I like the glass straws for the obvious environmental factor of less plastic waste. Below from the Glass Dharma website:
Now, granted, there are a lot more plastics in our world than just drinking straws, but bear with me a minute and let me put things in perspective … As of March 2008, McDonald’s serves an average of 52 million meals PER DAY! (Per their website) How many of those served do you think were given a plastic straw? I hope it is becoming obvious just how big of a problem these pesky little plastic straws can be. Remember, this is just from McDonalds!! Get the picture??
Glass Dharma is a cool little company. They ship fast, have a 100% satisfaction guarantee AND a lifetime guarantee against breakage by which they will fix or replace your straw for free. They also have hemp and bamboo sleeves so you can tote your straw around.
Very cute and practical. I think I might get a bamboo sleeve. Check out Glass Dharma and let me know if you join the ‘glass straw lovers’ club.
p.s. I’m not affiliated with Glass Dharma. I just think it’s an awesome product and great for you and the environment!
