Wild Foraging and SubLime Mousse

by lilla on April 15, 2009

Lately I’ve been noticing a trend in the raw community. Everyone’s really getting back to nature at the ROOT level – harvesting fresh spring water like Dhru and crew, foraging for wild greens like the Raw Model, planting gardens like Angela Stokes and Matt Monarch in Ecuador, brewing teas and elixirs like Daniel Vitalis. It’s a move away from the packaged superfoods trend and Whole Paycheck to finding local wild-growing free “superfoods” all around us. It’s so cool to watch it unfold and the flowing exchange of shared information is phenomenal.

I found this great website about wild foraging called Learning Herbs and it’s chockful of free information, videos, a downloadable herb chart, etc. Wonderful stuff! I’m learning how to make my own infusions, teas, tinctures and salves. They have an herbal medicine-making kit that I would LOVE to try out, except it would be too much of a hassle to get it shipped to Oz right now. They also have a WildCraft Board game to learn about herbs and wild food – what a great idea and fun way to learn! I wouldn’t mind getting it for myself too – lol.

I wonder if this change in tide is due to the economic crisis or would it have come anyway? Either way, I’m glad it’s here and love learning about and reading people’s experiences.

Today, I made an impromptu lime mousse and it was sublime! I wanted a treat but didn’t feel like going out so I took an avocado, a couple of limes and honey and whipped them together into a single serving of mousse. I put it in the freezer to chill but it was soooo good, I think I waited all of 3 minutes before I pulled it out and ate it. Yumm!
