I’ve been volunteering to teach some raw food classes at my friend’s cafe ‘Samudra’ and it’s been quite an experience! It’s a series of six classes that covers the gamut of raw food basics – from soup to nuts.
Designing the whole program, prepping and execution has been quite a bear! Wow – didn’t realize how much work it was going to take. But it’s been really rewarding and each week the classes keep get bigger and bigger, so I must be doing something right – lol. It’s so great to see people excited about their health and eating wholesome organic foods. In fact, last time I went to the local grocer, he said people have been demanding more organic foods ever since starting the classes! That’s so wonderful. We CAN vote with our dollars and support organic farmers and get rid of the Monsantos of the world. Yay!

Last week, I went on a bush tucker tour with some friends in Margaret River. For those non-Aussies out there, bush tucker is someone who eats locally off the land. It’s basically wild foraging including plant foods and wild game, such as kangaroos.
It started out with a canoe ride down the Margaret River, a talk about the founding of WA and a peek inside a cave. Then our guide showed us edible greens and berries that we could safely eat. With the financial crisis looming, my pals and I thought it would be a good idea to learn about foraging in case the dollar becomes worthless and we can’t buy any food. I’m not trying to be fatalist, but ya just never know.
So any way the wild nuts, berries and and greens tasted bad to mediocre at best – lol. Quite disappointing. We didn’t try the roo or grubs. (Yes, I said grubs – ewwww!) If the economy does collapse, I’ll be setting up a tent under my adopted figs trees! Or moving back to Kauai, where the land just drips with luscious fruits and greens. Nonetheless, a fun day out and good upper body rowing for the RTP pre-shred.
