Visiting Maggie

by lilla on January 21, 2009

My friend and I drove along the coast of Southwest Oz today and the scenery is just so beautiful and unspoiled. As usual, it was a gorgeous day here in WA on our way to our destination – the town of Margaret River. It’s a cute little hamlet of shops and cafes – nice vibe, but somehow I expected more. I guess because the whole area is called Margaret River? Anyway, it was lovely to get out of Dunsborough for the day and explore the region.

Margaret River! Old memories return. I was living in Perth and used to drive "down south" every so often. WA is so beautiful.

    Hey Lilla

I was once stationed at a place called William Creek in South Australia. It was "right next door" to the world's largest cattle station (larger than your home state New Jersey), the world's largest salt lake etc. so I expected a thriving township.

When I got there, after 250 kilometers of driving since the last town my first observation was that there was no creek followed by noticing that there was only one building, a pub of course.

The world's largest everything was also the world's smallest ton, with a population of 6.

To some the Margaret River would be considered "The Big Smoke"... and you expected more!

    Hope you had fun:)

  • Haha - that's kinda how I felt! I did have fun though.
Good thing was that my friend was going there, so she gave me a lift. Otherwise, I was considering taking the bus and spending the night. THEN I would have REALLY been disappointed. So far I think Duns is my fave place that I've been too.
