I Have A Home!

by lilla on December 16, 2008

Yay! After living out of a suitcase in hostels and in other people’s homes for over 2 weeks, I finally have my own place! It felt so good to unpack my bags last night, stock up my fridge, take a hot bath and just chill out. My roommates (friends of friend) were SUPER nice and hospitable, but it’s always a bit uncomfortable being a guest in someone else’s home.

I’m renting a cute 3-bedroon furnished home that is cheaper than my one-bedroom unfurnished studio in Kauai! Thanks to the weak Australian dollar, it is mega-cheap for Americans in Oz right now. I still have to buy a few things like sheets and towels, but I’m really trying not to accumulate too much like I did in Kauai. I want to avoid the last-minute garage fire sale.

Only bad thing is that I don’t have internet at home yet and it could take awhile, so it’s going to be hard to blog and stay in touch. I’m at an internet cafe right that is about to shut down. Reminds me of my days back in my hometown library, trying to post before the lights went out. Gotta run!

So glad you are settling in Lilla! Weak Aussie dollar might be good for you, but things are getting expensive for us Aussies :)

    Where's Kauai?

    Hawaii.

Yes, I imagine it is. I just read that a bunch of concert promotors have cancelled tours in Oz because of cost. Wonder how long this economy will go on.

    Hi Lilla,

Maybe you posted this already. Do you have a timeline to stay in Oz?

Also, any gyms closeby that you plan to join?

So glad that you have your own little pad now. So much nicer to be your own boss in all. And wanted to say how VERY brave you are to move so far from home, and wish you well. Sounds so fabulous. Keep telling us more about your new life there.

Probably until July/Aug in Oz, then off to New Zealand. No visa required in NZ. Wonder how long I can stay there? Does anybody know?

It's funny how people tell me I'm brave, but I guess it is an odd life I lead. LOL.
Ten years ago, I would of thought it was brave too and NEVER would have considered traveling for more than a 2-4 week vacation.
Who know? Maybe one day I'll settle down. :)
