My New Neighbor is the Enforcer

by lilla on December 11, 2008

I can’t believe a seagull tipped off Adam and Retro to my whereabouts! Next time I’ll have to be more careful with my picture clues. But in the end, it was Linda and Bec who guessed that I now live near my fellow shredder, the enforcer Mike Groom. Good on ya! Now I really need to get on track or he may very well come hit me with the big stick – ouch!

Truth is, I haven’t been doing any “official” shredding since I’ve arrived in Australia BUT I have been doing ashtanga, running and walking everywhere! I did locate a tiny gym near me recently, though it’s still quite a hike without a car. So now my next adventure is getting a car and learning to drive on the other side of the road. My brain still hasn’t gotten used to it yet and I have to look 10xs before I cross a street so I don’t get flattened! LOL.

I am catching onto the lingo though. Adam’s Aussie glossary post has come in surprisingly handy except I’ve noticed there is a variation in the accent. One of my current roommates has such a thick accent, I can barely understand a word he says. I wonder how I sound to him? He probably can’t understand a word I say either. :)

Lilla, you are always having such fun times...you certainly have the knack to be in great places at just the right time. I would surmise that you are in OZ to help Adam out with something on the new RTP deal. Among other things. If so, we are all green-eyed that you can be right there in the middle of all the fun. You have to tell us all the details, all the neat things that are going on. AND, tell us if Mike Groom is really as monstruously muscled up as he seems? Wish Spain were closer.....

  • Too funny Lilla. I'm envious you get to meet Mike. Hope you have a fun time. I remember quite well his photo of the stick!
  • Yes it's going to be a fun meet-up. I think Ron is supposed to be in the area early next year too. We'll have to have a shred session and a bowl of protein oatmeal together! (and room temperature water.)
  • Bec
OK so now that we know where you are you must tell us WHY you are there.Seems and odd but very lovely place to move to. I'm being a right sticky beak here. You'll have to work out what that means. Bec
  • Yes it is odd. Nothing I sought out to do. Just circumstances lined up to bring me here. Will explain soon!
  • Mike Groom
Howdy neighbour! You'll have to spell like an Aussie as well!

Looking forward to actually catching up! I'll bring The Enforcer Stick to the meeting as well.
  • That will make a great photo op - you, me, Ron(?) and the Enforcer Stick!

    Hi Lilla!

I had the same problem with the change of direction when I came to New York. I think I was really slow to acclimatise because of all the one way streets. A turning point for me was when I drove to Canada, I think the time simply sitting in the drivers seat for a lengthy period made something click even if I didn't have to turn that often. Plenty of straight roads in WA.

Don't worry about your accent, the United States Government actually established Hollywood purely so that Australians could understand what you're saying:)
  • I think you're right - long stretches of road will help me adjust.

Thank you Hollywood! So nice of the US government. ;)
