My Favorite Homemade Moisturizer

by lilla on November 26, 2008

Here is a zero-calorie recipe just in time for Thanksgiving!

African Shea Butter blended with Extra-Virgin Coconut Oil and a few drops of essential oil, makes a wonderful chemical-free and preservative-free moisturizer that keeps for a long time at room temperature. Since skin is the largest organ of the body, I think it’s important not to pour chemicals onto it that can be absorbed into the tissues and bloodstream. That’s what environmental pollution is for! ;)

Enjoy!

Your videos get better and better every time. Am very interested in your receipe for body cream. It REALLY is important what we slather on. Remember when they all said to use CRISCO for your body…cheap and good…! NOT. It has trans fat now we know. I have a jar of Shea Butter from The Body Shop…does that count, or is it filled with harmful chemicals? Thanx for the help.

    Hi Lynda,
Not familiar with Shea Butter from the Body Shop, but I think Adam might have an opinion. ;)

Thanks for the video on the moisturizer, Lilla. I do agree that we should be very careful what we put on our skin. I usually use Cetaphil products which I've been told are one of the better ones you can purchase from a regular store.

Hey, is everything ok? where's Lilla?

Lilla, I have a question. I imagine it would be totally impossible to find that shea butter here, BUT I do have some coconut oil that I ordered from Holland some time ago.
Could I just use coconut oil straight as a moisturiser? I put some on my hand and it went on well. I know you are such a guru about these things…..

    We are missing you bigtime!

Yes you can! I love straight coco oil as a moisturizer. I just mix it with shea to make it thicker for winter.

Very busy lately. Hope to begin posting again in a few days. :D

How much coconut oil did you use with the 1/2 cup shea butter?

  • KaliLilla

I think it was a 1/4 cup. Start with that and add more or less of each
ingredient until you get the texture you like. You can't go wrong . :)
