Big Juicy Warp Speed Day

by lilla on September 12, 2008

Got in a great Warp Speed Fat Loss workout today. Since I’m off-schedule by a few days, I’ve decided to consider this past week ‘Zero Week WSFL Warm-Up’ (LOL), so I will still complete my 4-week WSFL as planned. Since I don’t have any travel or major events coming up soon, I should be able to do a clean 28-day of WSFL straight (fingers crossed.)

Today’s workout started with four sets of squats with a 2-second hold at parallel. The 2-second hold REALLY makes a difference. It forces me to power through the ascent to standing. Feel the burn! It was pretty brutal by the time I got to the fourth set. I also did some kettlebell swings, Swiss ball work, step-ups and deadlifts.

Then I had a big ol’ juice feast when I got home! I juiced a quarter of a big watermelon, rind and all, and then I made a gallon of green juice from sprouts, celery, cukes and parsley. Earlier this summer, I was having lower back kidney pain I think from all the protein I was eating. So I’ve been drinking lots of watermelon juice and parsley juice and now the pain is entirely gone – yay! Watermelon juice is so delicious and cleansing. It’s the only fruit juice that is served at the Ann Wigmore Center in Puerto Rico, at least when I was last there.

I wish juicing wasn’t such a big hassle. I would love to have fresh green juices every day. I was so spoiled at the Tree of Life Center when I worked there. All I had to do was go to the TOL Cafe and hold up a glass and they would fill it for me. Good times…

  • I LOVE watermelon! Try as I may, I just can't eat a whole 'melon so I freeze the flesh in single-serve baggies. It makes great protein shakes, especially when blended with fresh mint and spinach! The rind is a bit too much for my blender, but I've heard there are great nutritional properties in it that are hard to find anywhere else. Guess I need to get a juicer now, eh?
  • Freezing is a great idea!
Yeah, the rind will kill any blender. I think it will only work in a twin gear juicer.

Interesting Alex. I'm curious about what kind of beans/juice that it.

You would (kind of) love China Lilla, cheap juice bars on every corner, and with a little bit of luck it's really just juice what they put in it (you can actually see what they do behind the counter). They also have some nasty drinks with beans in it, no my thing but the locals love it.

    Hi Juli!
Online un-cooking course - now there's an idea!

    Hey Michael,

Thanks for the compliment and for stopping by! :)

Hi Lilla, you are looking great, sweetie! I spent some time just now reading older blog entries to see what I missed. Glad to have caught up!

Lilla, you need a health-restaurant-bar-place...with an online cooking-course. I would sign in directly.

I never thought of making watermelon-juice...and then with rind and kernels and whatever. What a fanatstic idea!

Awww...you girls made my day! (hugs)

Yes, the rind is great to juice - has lots of minerals, chlorophyll and enzymes. The rind also helps to dilute the fruit sugar impact.

You can have it plain or mix it up. I had some straight and then some in my green juice to sweeten it up a little.

So, the watermelon rind is ok to juice? What nutrients are in it? Thanks again for all your help...you really don't know the people you touch and help through your blog! Zoey
