Bumming Around Lake George, NY

by lilla on September 10, 2008

On my drive back home from Montreal, I decided to stop by Lake George, NY. Now this is more my style!

A lazy little lake community with a main street lined with shops to explore and things to do. It’s a bit touristy – lots of hotels, a few arcades, a waterslide and mini-golf – but still more charming to me than a big modern amusement park. It’s got that smalltown, mom-and-pop feel to it.

It’s quite a ghost town right now though. I guess because it’s a weekday after Labor Day and the tourist season is now officially over. It’s 6pm and most of the shops are closed and the street is quiet. The lake itself is beautiful and vast! There are gorgeous homes along the edge and I imagine it must be wonderful to wake up to such a gorgeous vista each day.

After about a few hours bumming around, I decided it was time to head homeward bound. Looking forward to sleeping in my own bed tonight.

Well, I grew up in almost desert, west Texas, so love to even think of living where you have a lake to enjoy. So glad you got to take a small vacation...good trip home.

Yes, it really looks like nice place to live - a combination of bustling summer tourist season followed by a serene, quiet winter.

Hi Lilla. I grew up on such a lake in a 1600 soul town. In the summer we had all the tourists from all over the world including celebrities staying at the Casino hotel. In the winter even the supermarket was closed 3 days a week and most public transportation was shut down! (didn't stop us kids from having fun in the snow and on the frozen lake)

I am from a small town origianlly and I like the fact that I can escape the city at least once a month just to get away from it all. Have a safe drive home. Glade you had a good time though and the picture is lovely. Angie
