A Simply Wonderful Day at the Simply Raw Festival

by lilla on September 8, 2008

Today was a fun day in Ottawa. Woke up early and went for a jog along the Rideau Canal. I got some sightseeing and cardio done all in one fell swoop. The architecture of the parliament buildings on the canal bank is nothing short of spectacular! How did they ever build those gorgeous stone buildings, so intricately carved and adorned?

After my sightseeing jog, I headed to the outdoor market which is 10xs the size of my hometown farmer’s market. The way the farmers display their fruits and veggies is a piece of art.

I encountered some unusual finds like granadilla, starfruits, kumquats and barhi dates. Barhi dates are my favorite date - they have almost a chocolatey taste. In the photo below, you can see them still on the branch.

After the farmer’s market, I went to the Simply Raw Festival. It was great fun and there was a huge turnout! I’m so happy to see so many people exploring a raw food lifestyle.

I will be posting more about the festival later, but in the meantime, here is a local newspaper article about the event.

Now I’m off to Montreal - au revoir!
