Video: Raw Food Organic Staples

by lilla on August 20, 2008

My raw food goodie box has arrived!

Here’s a rundown of the items in my box.

1) Organic Shelled Hemp Seed – Vegetarian protein source with perfect omega 3:6 ratio
2) Cacao Butter – The oil pressed from the cacao bean – awesome for raw food desserts
3) Bee Pollen – All essential amino acids and rich in enzymes
4) 3% Food Grade H2O2 – Great for sprouting, cleaning fruit & veggies (Correction: In the video, I said this costs $3-4 but it’s actually $6.75)
5) Coconut Cream – Coconut water and coconut meat whipped into a cream
6) Uli Mana Dark Truffles – A decadent raw cacao treat
7) Yacon Syrup – Low glycemic prebiotic sweetener
8) Carob Powder – From the carob tree, slightly sweet often used as a chocolate substitute

Thanks for watching and if there is something you would like me to discuss in future video broadcasts, please leave me a comment.

Yum, Dede! The snackaroons sound delish. I just did a search and they're not available on the East Coast. :( If I make it out to Portland, we'll have to have a snackaroon refeed after our run!

Love, love, LOVE this video! Especially the beginning: answering the door and receiving your package. Also a wonderful review of products. Sort of demystifies it a bit for me.

I thought of you last weekend (and all this week) because I found a new raw food snack called Snackaroons made by Laughing Giraffe. It's got coconut & nuts and who cares whatever else. They had me at coconut & nut butter. :-)

    Hi Lynda,

I like to put bee pollen in smoothies, or make a raw trail mix or as a topping when I make raw chocolate. You can always add some to raw cookies too (probably not good in raw crackers though.)

I will post the cracker recipe soon. Cookie recipe came out good too, but it's bit more work and dehydrating time to make.

Thanks Mike! It makes me happy to hear that people are enjoying the vids as much as I like making them. :)

    Hi Suzette!
Great idea re: juicing vs. blending. Zoey suggested it too. I'm just waiting for my dad to ship one of my juicers to me from California. Should be here in a couple of weeks.

    Hi Debbie,
    Glad you liked the video.

I like to put bee pollen in smoothies, or in raw trail mix or as a topping when I make raw chocolate - yum!

It's naturally sweet so helps to sweeten my non-fruit green juices naturally. I can eat a teaspoonful straight too when I want a shot of protein and enzymes!

Yay Zoey! Your juice sounds MARVELOUS! You're right on the money - low stomach acid will impact absorption of nutrients and digestion of protein and fats. I like to put a splash of Bragg's raw apple cider vinegar in a glass of water and drink first thing in the morning and sometimes before meals. It's a great natural way to boost low stomach acid vs. popping pills.
You are VERY lucky to have such an open-minded doctor!

What fun seeing what´s out there. Just when was all hyped to do dehydrated cookies, now I have to think about what to do with all these. The bee pollen I can get for sure. How do I use it? Do you mix it in with a smoothie, or on it´s own. Am LUVING so much all your videos. This raw eating is so new to me and just adore how it´s feeling. Thanx a million for your videos!

so enjoy watching you in your videos. raw food is so foreign to me but love the idea of so many great health benefits.
how about more easy recipe videos for someone like me who has no idea where to start with raw food eating. except for making a salad!

how about the differences and pro vs. cons between juicing and making smoothies.

Fantastic video! Truly...so fun to watch. Each video is better than the one before. Thanks for sharing what was in your package AND for the links to each item. I will be placing an order. How do you supplement with bee pollen?

OK, I have to tell you, my first juicing went GREAT! Thank you for the tips! I made a cucumber, celery, swiss chard, apple, spinach and strawberry juice! And, as I fell asleep last night, I was reading Green for Life, which you recommended, and got to the part about low stomach acid and how it can cause low/poor nutrition. I think that's what has been behind all of my low electrolyte levels! Pills only work for me if I can chew them before swallowing..no matter how much I eat, I cannot raise my magnesium levels...so I mentioned this to my Dr. today, and we are going to look into it...So a huge Thank You for your site and all your knowledge about nutrition!! Zoey
