Cacao Chocolate Video: Benefits of Raw Organic Cacao

by lilla on August 13, 2008

In today’s video bite, I discuss the raw facts about the cacao bean including the health benefits of dark chocolate cacao, mineral and antioxidant levels, and how to use the four different forms of raw chocolate cacao:

  1. raw cacao beans
  2. raw organic cacao nibs
  3. raw organic cacao powder
  4. raw cacao butter

As I mention in the video, Raw Guru is one of my favorite online raw store. Raw Guru offers free shipping on orders over $100, which is easy to do if you buy in bulk or with a friend like I do. Also the “Raw Guru,” Alex is a graduate of the Tree of Life in Arizona where I used to work. Yay Alex!

Another one of my new faves is The Raw Food World run my Matt Monarch. I met Matt at Bonobos recently where he was giving a talk on raw foods. The Raw Food World has great prices and some unusual finds like Dr. Fred Bisci’s Therapeutic Enzymes.

In next week’s video, come take a peek inside my Raw Guru box when it arrives! I will be revealing what I bought and why. Plus I will be taste-testing a special treat that I ordered. Hope it’s as good as it sounds. ;D

p.s. My raw chocolate recipe for lollipops featured in the video will be in the September issue of my newsletter, so get your candy-making molds ready!

Excellent video, Lilla! Now I’ve got a box of nibs but they’re NOT raw. Will think of a way to use them and then order a box of raw. The health food store near me doesn’t offer a great selection on this. I’ll check out rawguru.com.

    Thanks!

I’m sure you’ll still get a lot of benefit from your box of nibs. Even store-bought processed dark chocolate bars retain some antioxidant level, so I’m sure the nibs fair way better.

Thank you for the kind words, Muriel. :)
I'm traveling right now and don't have access to my newsletter server, but
    here is the recipe:

    DEVASTATINGLY RAW CHOCOLATE
1/2 Cup Maple or Agave Syrup
    1/2 Cup Cacao Butter
    1/2 Cup Cacao Powder
    Seeds from 1/2 Vanilla Bean

Melt the cacao butter in a glass bowl immersed in another bowl of hot water.
Stir in the cacao powder, vanilla and 1/4 cup of the syrup. Taste for
desired sweetness and add as much of the remaining 1/4 cup of syrup as
desired. Blend well until smooth and velvetty! Pour into candy molds. Add
any extras you please like goji berries, bee pollen, nuts or almond butter.
Place in freezer for about 1 hour or until solid. Share and enjoy!

Did you catch the video edition of this recipe that I recorded with my
8-year old niece? Check it out
