About Me

by lilla on August 11, 2008

Why is it so hard to write an ‘About Me’ page? I guess we are all taught to be humble and modest, even to the point of self-deprecation at times. I know that I’ve personally resisted posting an ‘About Me’ in the past (except for a tongue-in-cheek list of words that I aspire to be) partly out of humility and partly out of a desire for privacy.

But today I’ve decided to write a little bit about myself for two reasons. First, while I do believe some humility keeps us from being blinded by our ego or overly self-absorbed, I also think too much is inhibiting and keeps us from being bold and following our truest desires.

Secondly, my blog is going in a new direction as I start to talk more about my experience and knowledge in natural health, raw food, nutrition and yoga. So I owe it to my readers to tell you a little bit about my experience and education. And also so that you can rest assured that I didn’t just start a blog last year and decide to spew advise after reading a few nutrition or yoga books. :D

I’ve experienced much of what I write about firsthand and learned from my mistakes which sometimes is even more valuable than education itself. I’m very happy to have the ability to share what I know with you, but I also want to say that it is up to each individual to educate themselves and decide what is best. I can tell you about my experience, but in the end, you are responsible for you.

I also intend this blog to be a positive place – no ranting, arguing or complaining (well, maybe a little bit of bellyaching about my workouts…hehe.) I believe words written and/or spoken carry a negative or positive vibe that affects our mood and well-being, so my intentions is to keep this a place of positive energy.

And finally below is some of my experience EXcluding my college and corporate days. Thank you for reading. :)

Hi Lilla, it's nice to see the info about you in one post. I know some of this already from reading your blog but it's great to see it all at the same time.

I agree... not easy to write "about me".

    Hi Suz,
I think they are most curious about your past, what you've done and a bit of your personal life. When I think of the shreddersphere, I have a good sense of them in the present and some idea of their family life and interests but I'm always curious to know what they've accomplished, where they've been, etc. Like Bec in the comments to this post - now I'm curious to know about her past in Arizona, what brought her there, when and why.

What do people want to know about someone in an "about me"?
  • KaliLilla.com
Thanks Gina! Yes writing about oneself can be tough. Just got to get over that shyness because I think most people are interested in hearing about other people's past. I know I'm curious about others I meet online...like you now! :)

Thanks Suzette. Raw food and natural hygiene can be a bit radical from today's norm, but it makes so much sense especially when one realizes it was "the way" before the industrial revolution of the 1900s. We've just lost sight of that.

Lilla, thanks for sharing. I agree the about me is always hard to put into words. Thanks for a great and informative blog.

I never know what to put in "about me" places either.
I love that you are so knowledgeable about the raw food life. it does make for interesting reading, as Bec mentions.

Hi Lilla, you certainly seem to be in the know with a more holistic type of life. I'm starting to read some more about this raw way of eating. I even found some of the books you recommended. I'm glad you are going to be sharing your knowledge with us. It makes for much more interesting reading.
I used to live in Sierra Vista, AZ not far from Patagonia. Az is such a beautifully spirtual place I loved living there. I just wish it had of been a different time in my life like now when I'm seeking a different approach to life. Anyway look foward to reading more of your writings.
