213 - Down but not out

by lilla on July 15, 2008

I knew it was going to happen but I did it anyway. I injured my ankle again. Last week it got a good pummeling from my HIIT sprints. Then on Sunday, I knew I was doing more damage during my 5-mile run, but I pushed through it. This morning however, it was quite a painful 3-mile run. Of course being a glutton for punishment, I finished it anyway and topped it off with a 2-mile walk. Smart, I know.

Anyway, I think I’m going to be sidelined from running for a few days until it heals. If I keep running on the injury, it will never get better. I’ll be substituting bike sprints for my interval workouts and walking around town for some Nike+ miles. I’m hoping it will be better by the weekend. In the meantime, I need to figure out the best pre-nutrition for my long distance runs. I’m used to doing early morning fasted HIITs, but that just doesn’t work on longer runs. LOL.

The thing that got me through this morning was Suzette’s son. I dedicated my run to him so that he might recover from his illness. When I felt like quitting, I thought of him. I thought of my energy going directly into his little body. I thought of the fluid draining from around his heart and his body healing. I pictured him happy and smiling. And I told myself, if I can just finish this run, he WILL get better. And I did.

Now I’m not writing this for a pat on the back. I really DO believe we are all connected by life force and energy on a dimension that we cannot see or fully comprehend. And I think we can effect each other’s lives across distances through thoughts, emotion and the power of intention. I do hope I was able to reach him even just a little bit. And I thought maybe the Shredder+ Team might dedicate their miles and effort to him until he recovers and collectively send him some healing vibes. Wouldn’t that be a great and powerful force of energy!

Ok Shredders, I’m signing off for today and going to the JM concert - Yay!

I was wondering how your ankle was going to love all that marathon running. Hope you feel better soon. Take is slower. Am so in accordance with you about doing things for people and helping out thru time and distance. I will definitely walk my walk for Suzette´s son too. Great idea. Hey, my sun tea turned out great!

Hey Lilla, please don't push yourself too hard...maybe you can see a sports-orthopedic-specialist? Maybe you can even take your shoes along? The longer you take off from running the better it might get,,,I talk very much from experiencem ...:-(.

suzette's little guy can have all my miles, I know he is a fighter, like his Mom.

Maybe you can find on this page something valuable:

Lilla, you don't know how it touches my heart for you(and others) to dedicate your run today to my son and his wellbeing. It brings me to tears with heartfelt gratitude for you(and other shredders)! Much love to you for doing this! Sending you hugs!
Do mend the ankle as you do not want this to be a long term injury.
  • Mike Groom

    Hi Lynda,
The ol' ankle is not happy with the marathon decision and is rebelling like a child. cranky, cranky...lol.

    Juli,
Thanks for the tips and runtheplanet link! That's just what I needed!

I went to a doc in Kauai and got custom inserts because I overpronate a LOT. The inserts have helped but the impact of the sprints was too much last week. I know it will heal if I take it easy. But sometimes it hard to just sit on the sidelines. ;(

    Suzette,
I am still praying for little Daniel. I'm sure he will come through this stronger than ever!

Oh NOOOO!!!! Lilla! I'm sooooo sorry to hear about your ankle. Definitely give it a chance to heal, and most importantly, take care of you.

I've always done early AM fasted workouts, too, so I'm also very interested in pre- during- and post-long run nutrition. Since Skwigg turned me onto Rachel Cosgrove's site, I'm hopeful she'll have some good tips.

Lastly, have you heard of Lynne McTaggart's intention work? She's got a new experiment she's preparing which is to be conducted world-wide. Kinda cool stuff. If you're interested, read about it here: http://www.bleepingherald.com/jul2008/intention... speedy recovery to you!
