200 – And They’re Off! Shredder+ Team Begins

by lilla on July 2, 2008

Welcome to a Special Edition Blog Post!

Yesterday, the Shredder+ Team kicked off Day 1 of the July “Fat to Phat” Nike+ Challenge. The goal? To log as many miles as possible in the month of July. This is more of a competition with ourselves to break old boundaries and limiting mindsets, and post “personal bests” while having fun and supporting each other along the way.

Shredder+ Roll Call

Here are the brave souls willing to share their Nike+ stats for the world to see. Talk about positive pressure! The “code name” listed along side each person is their id on the Nike+ scoreboard so you can watch their progress. Please visit their blogs, read about their experience and drop a word or two of encouragement.

Drum roll, please…..

1) Lynda: code name “Marbella”; Lynda’s Blog: 130 On My Way

2) Meredith: code name “hesshess3″; Roadmap to Success

3) Juli: code name “juli_”; Juli

4) Daniel: code name “Enderet”; Fight to Survive

5) Kali Lilla: code name “Kali Lilla”; (haha – not a very stealth id)

6) Debbie: code name DebbieS; Debbie’s Blog: Can We Talk

7) DeDe: code name “JustDeDe”; Deedle

8) Adam: code name “AdamWaters”; RTP-Blog 2.0

9) Michael: code name “shredfat”; The Fat Burning Machine

10) Andrew: code name “bloodsweat”; Blood, Sweat (Buckets) and Tears (Nearly)

The “Fat to Phat” Challenge Scoreboard

Here is the infamous, undoctored Nike+ scoreboard. Miles are updated constantly 24/7 on a roughly one-hour delay. Scroll to see all the contestants and their latest standing.

You can run (pun intended,) but you can’t hide from the truth!

Shredder+ Badge

Now we can’t have an official team without a badge, now can we? Please cast your vote for your favorite Shredder+ badge. The poll will be open to all – participants and spectators alike – for 5 days only and can be found in my top right sidebar. Be a part of history in the making and vote now! (Geez – I sound like a politician.)

Check Out What The Buzz is About!

Read what some Shredder+ peeps are saying -

“I did my thing…and at 2 miles, my mind said, ok, now it’s time to walk…then I thought of Lilla…cruising, doing her 3 miles, and I was motivated…like I had a trainer who was with me, pushing me to go further….and I did…my legs were like rubber bands…and I’ll most likely not be able to walk in the morning…but it was a rush and well worth the extra effort. If I can do that, what else can I do?” – Meredith, Roadmap To Success

“You know, when you see your name on the NIKE+ Challenge and what mileage you have done….THEN…compare it to others, you really get a move on to post more distance.” – Lynda, 130 on My Way

“I did however, run over to Finishline to buy a Nike+ SportBand, and wow, this thing is cool. I was so excited I bought this, I got home after work, plugged it in, downloaded the software, got it up and running, waited for it to charge, and then went out for a jog at 10 at night. Ran 3.75 miles and then called it quits. I think its going to be fun to participate with the others Shredders in the Fat 2 Phat IV challenge.” – Daniel, Fight To Survive

“The great and very admired South African runner Zola Budd (’n regte boeremeisje) ran barefoot and she was fast! I wonder if she has a gadget like this as well. BUT: It is so much fun!” – Juli, Juli

Gratitude

Finally I would like to give a big shout out to Adam Waters: RTP Blog 2.0 for starting the wildfire community of people that have come together from around the globe to support each other. He’s making “shredder” a household name and promoting a lifestyle of personal responsibility, hard work ethic and obtainable dreams – “Eat Clean, Shred Hard, Think Big!”

Also big thanks to Tom Venuto for writing the blog post “How I Got Ripped Abs for the Very First Time” on June 19. After reading his post, I was inspired to get a Nike+ wristband and get moving!

And finally thanks to the growing Shredder commu
nity for all your support and making this such a fun ride!

Oh, and don’t forget to vote EVERYONE – participants and spectators!

No worries Deb! If you're using a treadmill, maybe keep a log of your miles until the NIke+ arrives? That way you can add them on to your Nike+ miles and get an idea of your total July miles.
  • Debbie
OK. I haven't read Tom's report yet but will TODAY!

Thanks for setting this up, Lilla. I'm anxious to get started. My "stuff" should be here on Tuesday. ARGH!

    Mike and Daniel,

Tom's post was kind of pivotal for me. I felt like I had been yoyoing over the past few months with no progress. But when I read about how running for him was the trick to ripdom, I knew I had to ramp up the intensity and it's working! I've already lost a few pounds since I started last week! Yay!
  • Adam Waters
Hi Lilla, you have done a great job setting this Challenge up! Once I get a strap for my sensor I'll join too.
    Shred on Shredders!

    Interesting...

I read that same post and it really motivated me. I don't usually read Tom Venuto's blog, simply because of a lack of time, but I like that us 3, and probably other shredders read it and were impacted by it.

Going great with the running Lilla.

I agree about tom/abs post. That sort of inspired me as well.
