Day 173 – Benefits of EFAs

by lilla on June 5, 2008

In support of yesterday’s tip from Precision Nutrition, Udo Eramus says the following:

“Like minerals, vitamins and essential amino acids (proteins), they are essential for health and essential for life. Our body cannot make EFAs. It requires them for normal function of every cell, tissue, gland and organ. Omega 6 slightly and omega 3 more effectively help reduce fat production in the body. They also increase fat burning and heat production in the body, and shift the body from burning glucose to burning fats.”

Some of the benefits of essential fatty acids:

  • increased stamina
  • fast recovery from fatigue after exertion
  • elevated mood
  • greater calmness under stress
  • better mental performance
  • improved skin
  • lower triglycerides
  • healthier cardiovascular system
  • better digestion
  • bowel regularity
  • less inflammation and auto-immune symptoms
  • increased immunity
  • optimum insulin function
  • increased fat burning
  • better weight management
Sounds good to me!

Since returning from South Beach, I’ve taken two days off from all exercise. I’m kind of in limbo mode. Don’t feel like doing much of anything. I haven’t even unpacked. Is it just me or is unpacking a suitcase depressing?

Tomorrow, I’ll do some cardio and bodyweight exercise as I gear up for my next mission kicking off this Sunday. Right now, I’m reading up on nutrition and outlining my plan.

We’re expecting a heat wave here in NJ, so that’s going to make my outdoor runs interesting! It will probably force me to get out super early to avoid the heat. It’ll feel like I’m in Kauai again.

Unwind girl…this is good for you longterm. Take a well deserved break and work on your fitness and nutritional plans. Breaks from workouts are therapeutic and we don’t take enough of them.

i agree with Andy. I think we get burned out too much by always focusing on some mission. I think that is why we kind of faded the end of the cs2.0 shred(at least I did, anyway.) but that rest gets the fires burning again.

I’ve pretty much been resting for over a week now with minimal cardio and bodyweight training. It feels good but at the same I’m getting used to it and lazy about exercising.
But come Sunday I will be diving back in full force!

Thanks for posting the benefits of EFAs. I just purchased the triple strength fish oil tablets on Wednesday and will give them a try.

Unpacking a suitcase is depressing – if you’d rather be where you just came from!
