Day 142 – I Can’t Be Trusted with a Jar of Almond Butter

by lilla on May 5, 2008

I read on Mike’s Blog: Aussie Bodybuilder (extra point for me for following new linking format!) that he’s giving up nuts and cheese for his current mission. Cheese used to be a big trigger food for me too. Not so much anymore. But nuts? Fugedaboutit! I could eat a cup of nuts without blinking an eye. So I’ve learned not to indulge frequently and to only buy small quantities.

In fact, I buy almond butter by the tablespoon – no kidding! I’m working on a protein “bar” recipe and each morning I prepare a single serving. Almond butter is one of the ingredients, so I go to Whole Foods after my workout and but a teeny splat of freshly ground almond butter for $.75. The cashiers must think I’m nuts and for some odd reason, I always feel guilty just buying a dollop. But I know this is what I have to do.

So the moral of the story is, if you know you have a weakness, do whatever it takes to find a solution like Aussie Bodybuilder Mike did by denying “Harvey” (a.k.a. Mission 3) nuts and cheese.

Time to go – library lights just went out and I can’t see what I’m typing!

Hey Lil great job with the recent run of 12/12! I love both nuts and cheese, but for me they are both on plan (in moderation) so luckily I don’t have to cut them out. They aren’t really “triggers” so I guess I can resist when I need to. Never had almond butter…anyway, things look great – can’t believe we only have a few more weeks! Good luck navigating the treacherous parties coming up! You have a good plan, that’s more than I can say most of the time, so you should be good to go!

  • Mike Groom

Yep – they can be a problem.

Check your calcs for compliance. Should be 96.8% not 95.8%!

  • Shari Kraft

Hey muffin top! Just teasing! Send me your pic….I will hold on to it if you don’t want me to publish it. I’m hanging on to Suzette’s for awhile. I think you are doing so well… All you guys are my heroes!

grat job on the 12/12! you are looking great!
my problem is when the husband buys something he knows I “can’t” resist. plus just not planning is a killer.

  • Matt

I TOTALLY did that tonight! With the organic peanuts at Whole Food! I pumped out just a little bit and it cost a dollar and filled only a tiny portion of the container and I felt kind of silly but dammit, I want to put it in my chocolate smoothie. :-)

HAVE. YOU. TRIED. MIRACLE. NOODLES. YET!

  • Andy

Can you ship me one of dem delicious bars packaged to San Diego? Please!? Just kidding, Kali…

Seriously, yes you’re right about certain cravings that are just so hard to bare without. But you’re doing so good there kali with the food exchange approach you got goin’.

    I love almonds, too!!!

  • Your Grateful Cyber-friend, Christy

You’re great with the recipes. I can’t wait to hear about this protein bar. Also, I’m curious about these MIRACLE NOODLES. I’m a fan of both miracles and noodles, so I if you’ve got the skinny on that one let me know.

Wow! Mike does the math on other people’s blogs. I don’t even convert for kg to lbs when I look at charts, but 96.8%!!!. That point is well earned!

  • Debbie

My weakness is peanut butter. The kids normally go without because I just can’t keep it in the house. Nuts are dangerous too! Good for you to purchase only one serving.

Thanks Joni. Can’t believe we have less than 3 weeks to go!

Even better, Mike. Thanks for doing the math. I need all the % points I can get!

Hey, Shari. Hmmmm…I’ll consider it. Darn muffintop won’t go away!

Yeah Suzette – planning is crucial and doing whatever it takes. Tell your hubby to hide whatever he brings home. Out of sight, out of mind?

Alright Matt! The first time is the hardest and then ya just don’t care with the cashiers think. I have tried the miracle noodles – they’re good!

Hi Andy! I love almonds too. In fact, I don’t think I’ve met a nut I didn’t like.

    Hey Christie,
Google miracle noodles and it’ll probably come up. They’re good but a bit pricey for the amount and shipping. I might by them from time to time in the future.

    Hey Debbie,
It’s funny the things we resort to, like not keeping certain foods in the house. I wish I could just resist it and eat in moderation like Joni, but I’ve failed too many times to try again.

I hear you about the nuts! Addicted and boy you are discipline….almond butter by the TBSP? You go girl…looking good!
