Day 109 – It’s the End of Adam’s Visit As We Know It

by lilla on April 2, 2008

Wow – what an awesome day! It started with a brisk outdoor run this morning, followed by TT2K5 at my old gym, the Montclair Y.

Then I met up with Adam Waters and we headed into NYC for a live taping of the Colbert Report for Comedy Central channel. The show was awesome! Colbert is a genius! Watching him react so quickly, use his wit to improvise and nail his segments was an amazing experience. And the evening’s guest was none other than REM! One of my fave bands. I remember catching REM live at Rutgers University back in my college days (I won’t mention how long ago that was!) They played a few songs from their new album, Acceleration.

Here I am, doing my REM ‘I’m with the band’ roadie impression:

Adam was also in the spotlight today. The stand-up comic that came out to warm up the crowd before Colbert, asked if there were any people in the audience from overseas. Of course, Adam raised his hand and began to banter back and forth with the comic, laying on the THICKEST Aussie accent he could muster. What a ham! He must have said “mate” about a dozen times.
“G’day mate.”
“I’m from Brizbun, mate.”
“No worries, mate.”
“It’s a 22-hour flight, mate. Flew Economy Plus, mate.”
“Throw another shrimp on the barbie, mate. And couldja add some vegemite, mate? That would be a total spin-out, mate.” (Ok – so I made up this last line.)
The comedian just kept coming back to him – it was hysterical! What a fun time. So sorry to see Adam’s NYC visit come to an end. It’s been a lot of fun hanging out with you, Adam!

    Hey Christie!
I thought of you last night during the show. Man, I really admire stand-up. Those comedians have to think so lightening fast! Colbert took some impromptu audience questions before starting the taping and he was able to have a witty comeback for each one - amazing! Also watching him rehearse during commercial breaks and then turn "it" on, was sooo cool. Look forward to seeing you live on stage someday soon.

    Thank you Joey! :)

Your reveal photos look fantastic! I love REM, too. You'd make the cutest roadie ever. I saw them on the Green tour, which is kind of when everybody saw them. So cool they'd played your college. I wish I was there to see the Colbert Report taping with you guys. It sounds like total fun. Sorry I missed you on your layover, but that's a pretty long flight for Hawaii to NJ. The gig in Santa Barbara was fun, but really ROUGH crowd. You're doing so great!

    Hi Suzette,
The show was a total spin-out! Wish I could have gotten the tixs for ECSS weekend for all of us.

Yeah, I'm so lucky to be near Hoboken and able to hang out with Tom and Adam a little more.
