Cloves Cinnamon Cacao – Wow!

I've always heard people proclaim that chocolate is high on the ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) scale but I could never really find the proof - until now. I found this study from the USDA that compares the ORAC values of food. The top five per 100 grams in descending order are cloves, cinnamon, oregano, tumeric and cocoa powder. EcoFriendly Glass Drinking Straws

I just got a new glass straw from Glass Dharma. Love it! :) I chose the 8" smoothie size with green decorative dots. The dots are key, so it doesn't roll off the counter and break. The diameter is a roomy 12mm - perfect for my thick smoothies and elixirs. There are several other drinking straw styles, sizes and colors to chose from. Raw Christmas Canapes in July

I just made these little raw canapes last weekend for friends. They were really yummy and cute. Rolling them up and tying them with the chive without tearing it - tricky! I had a few casualties which I had to sacrifice and eat ;) but after the first couple, I had an assembly line going. I think soaking the chives in water helps make it more pliable. Adventures Across Oz – Part 1

Yep I did it. Crossed the continent of Australia from West to East Coast. On the "wrong" side of the road no less. lol. It was easier than I thought. The Nullarbor Plain was the most challenging part - just looooong stretches of desert with a roadhouse every 200k's or so. Bumming Around Byron Bay

Finally got off the road and settled down in Byron Bay. This is the perfect balance of town living combined with country serenity for me. There are tons of little shops, cafes and things to do in Byron – loads of daylife and nightlife, without being overly hectic or too sleepy. And the town is actually open past 5pm, which after living in Dunsborough is sooooo nice!

There are no big box chain stores here – no Target, MacDonalds, KFCs or Kmarts. (Although there is one Baskins Robbins and a Subway. I swear there are more Subways in Oz than the USA!) There is a restriction on building height, so nothing over 2 or 3 floors which adds to the quaint seaside town feel.

The beach is gorgeous, although I must admit that I think the beaches in the Southwest are somehow more stunning. There is a deck overlooking the ocean at the Pass, that I love to jog to in the morning and then sprint up the stairs three times. There’s also Byron Lighthouse which is a magnificent walk along the seaside cliffs – it’s a quadblaster for sure. ;D

There’s a great farmer’s market in town every Thursday and on the first Sunday of the month, there’s an amazing market of food, crafts and music that literally takes over the town – it’s a mob scene. There’s even a raw food stall called Raw Ecstasy – yum!

The only downside of Byron is that the traffic getting into town can be bad. I’ve been living with some friends right near the center of town, which is great because I can walk everywhere. This is the only way to go if you live here – within walking distance of town. That being said, it’s a great place. So open, cruisy and easy to meet people. I could definitely live here.

Hi Lilla! I am a Shredder, too! Juli gave me your blog address, and I am so glad she did. I love yoga and used to practice a lot, but it's been awhile, other than brief sessions at home or after a workout. I just joined a gym that has yoga classes included, so I can finally afford to get back into it. I'm also becoming more and more interested in the raw food way of life. I just bought a book about it and am slowly heading in that direction, although, most of what I eat now is raw, there is still a lot of room for improvement. It's interesting that Juli sent me here because I mentioned yoga and lo and behold, you are not only a yoga queen, but a raw food master!

On another note - I traveled through India years ago and fell madly in love with it. I also spend a year and a half traveling through Oz and also fell in love, again. Byron is a very cool place - it's easy to see why so many people stop traveling and stay there, but Oz has so much to offer. There are so many amazing places. Enjoy your stay in Byron and the rest of your time in Oz! I'll definitely start checking up on you from now on. :)
