Last Person on Earth to Discover Podcasts

by lilla on October 3, 2008

Yep, It’s me. Well, I knew about podcasts and I’ve listened to them, but I’ve never downloaded or subscribed to them before. I usually just stream them while I’m on my computer, which never really works out well because then I can’t fully concentrate on the podcast nor my work. But it just seemed like a hassle to get the iPod out, plug it in, fire up iTunes and then you know, all those keystrokes, dragging and dropping. Grueling. LOL.

But earlier this week, I had to hook up my iPod anyway to try out the free Cardio Coach workout that I got. I figured might as well do my once-a-year iPod downloading at the same time and look into some podcasts. So I headed over to We Like It Raw (WLIR), a great raw food blog. Not only can you download podcasts but you can subscribe to feeds! Wow – that’s new to me. And yes, I know what you’re thinking – “Duh, welcome to web 2.0.”

This is an awesome discovery because I am Miss Multitasker. I want to go for my morning jog (really I do) BUT I also want to be learning something at the same time. A lot of the times, I delay my run because I’m so absorbed in something on the internet. I have a huge backlog of videos, podcasts, articles, etc. that I want to explore and now I can run AND listen to podcasts. Yay!

So this morning, I listened to the WLIR interview with Annie Phyo, a raw food chef. Great interview about 40 minutes long. Perfect! Yesterday was Dr Alejandro Junger M.D. a live food friendly doctor. Awesome story! He practices in NYC and now I want to go see him. Wish I had discovered podcasts sooner, but as they say, better late than never.

If you have a favorite podcast or subscription, please post in a comment. Or better yet, leave me a video comment! I just noticed that video comments are enabled on my new blog. Way cool. So for all you brave souls out there, show your face and let me know what you’re listening to!

Don't worry, Lilla, I don't know podcasts as well, so I don't know the pleasures of using podcasts... but then I don't use an iPod! :D
  • Phew - so I'm not the last person on earth. We both are! ;D
  • add me to the no iPod crowd!
  • That makes three! I'll start a forum. ;D

I've downloaded podcasts too but what does it mean to subscribe to them? Does it show up in itunes or email? Help me out here Lilla...you're way ahead of me!

I also like to mulit-task while working out (watching Dr. Phil or Oprah or listening to a self-improvement audio). Lynda likes to listen to audiobooks. Unfortunately, you can't multi-task during workout while following cardiocoach. I've read some of Shawn Phillip's book, Strength for Life and he believes we don't get the results we want because of lack of focus during our workouts. Ahhh...the quandary.
  • Subscribing means (I think) that when I launch iTunes, it will prompt me to download any new podcast feeds that I've subscribed to. So next time I sign into iTunes, it will tell me if there are any new WLIR podcasts waiting for me.

I think there is something to be said for both focusing on cardio workouts and "zoning out.". LOL. I plan on doing a combination: some focused CC hardcore training and some enjoyable podcast/music jogs.

    Would you recommend Shawn's book?
  • Great multitasking!

    shred on!
